After teaching on what not to worry about, Christ redirects our attention to the things of true value. Jesus wants His followers to be ready. Ready for resistance from a world that will not want to hear their message of His death and resurrection. Ready to battle and subdue their flesh with its distractions. Most of all ready for Him to return in power, glory and judgment. He wants His people awake and focused on the things that last. Today’s passage helps us to answer the exceedingly important question: “What is your only hope in life and death?”
